What to do when you repeatedly get the “General Installation Error”

Safari 6.0.3 (7536.28.10)
Flash Player “11.6.602.180”. None now. I uninstalled the version I had. I never could find a version. This is what the “summary window” showed at the beginning of the install process.
As directed by the <WWW.bodum.com> web site, downloaded Flash Player upgrade Installer. Started installation, Closed Safari when directed. Soon after installation resumed, received message “General Installation Error”. Read trouble shooting instructions, used uninstaller for Flash Player, closed all programs, shut down computer. Restarted computer, down loaded Flash Player installation again. Using the new down load, went through the same steps as directed, soon after closing Safari got the same message “General Installation Error”.
