Issues while trying to install Flash Debug Player for IE10 on Win8

Hi,

I was trying to install the Flash Debug Player for Internet Explorer 10 on my brand new Windows 8 PC, because I wanted to properly install the free open-source Flex SDK to use to make Flash applications with the open-source FlashDevelop IDE.

However, when I tried it to install it, an advice appeared saying that "The installation encountered errors: Your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser includes the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player built-in. Windows Update will inform you when new versions of the Flash Player are available."

So, I realised that I had to uninstall that player, as this page said (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/release-note/flex-4-6-sdk-release .html> http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows. html). This page also said that, after running the uninstaller, I had to delete its files from these locations:

  • C:\Windows\System32\Macromed
  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
  • %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
  • %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player

I've managed to delete those files that where in the AppData directory, but the others were protected by TrustedInstaller.

I saw that I couldn't install the debug player due to the same message, and, in fact, I could still run flash content on IE10, so I thought that I really had to overcome that TrustedInstaller, and so I did some ressearch in order to achieve that. After going to Properties>Security to change the Owner of these two folders to Administrators and give them "full control" to them, I was finally able to delete them.

After restarting my computer, I made the same experience and I verified that I could no longer run any Flash content on IE10, so I tried to run the Flash Debug Player installer again. But, strangely, the very same message appeared!

Now, I've already done a lot of ressearch, set the ownership of those two folders back to NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller and tried to put Flash to work again on IE10, but I haven't managed to put things back to what they were before and run flash on my browser (thanks to the player instaler's refusal just because IE10 comes with it built-in by default)!

What have I done wrong through this process? Is there a way of installing flash debug player properly?

Thanks.
