Flash Player installation on Mac

I have tried to install Flash Player on my Mac OS X 10.6 and cannot seem to get it.  I have followed the uninstall and install directions on the Adobe website to no avail.  (I had Flash Player a few days ago.)  When installing it, the installation appears to work - it says it is complete - and when I go back onto the website to the page that shows which version is installed, the box comes up blank, meaning that there is no version installed.  How can this be?  I have confirmation that it is not there when I try to view an animation from a different website and I get an error message that I need to install Flash Player.  I'm sure I must have something set incorrectly, but what?  Any help would be appreciated.Image may be NSFW.
